HK Chronicles (2019-2023)

  • Initiated by Our Hong Kong Foundation, Hong Kong Chronicles Institute (HKCI) was established in August 2019, to commence publication of Hong Kong’s first-ever chronicles capturing the historical details of local social, cultural, and human progress.

  • This is an unprecedented project in keeping with a Chinese tradition dating back centuries. Through this comprehensive, systematic, and objective record of history, Hong Kong people are provided with an opportunity to gain a better understanding of their roots and heritage.

  • The Institute has formed a Council with 27 distinguished members, including scholars, business executives, professionals, community leaders, and government representatives, under the chairmanship of Mr. C.H. Tung. The Executive Committee is chaired by Mr. Bernard Chan, Convenor of the Hong Kong Executive Council.

  • The Master Project Plan with a budget of nearly $800 million is to be completed in eight years ( 2019-2027), covering about seven thousand years of Hong Kong history.

  • In addition to Chinese, Hong Kong Chronicles Institute (HKCI) also publishes an English edition. The launching ceremony of its first volume – Overview and Chronology was officiated by HKSAR Chief Executive Mr. John Lee Ka-Chiu at the Government House.

  • Mr. Sam Lam undertakes the planning and supervision of the project.
